Knowing what to do with your hand in Blackjack is the key to winning. Whether you need to hit or stay will be the making, or breaking point in your bet. Here are some scenarios, and what you should do with what hand. Having some guidelines will help you build a good strategy for playing, and develop healthy habits.

First, knowing when to stay, or not hit. You should always stay if your hand is worth 17, 18, 19, or 20, and it goes without saying you should stay if you have 21. You may not be as close as you’d like with a 17, but the odds of you getting a four or less are slim, and it isn’t worth busting.

If you have anything between a thirteen and a sixteen, you should only stay if the dealer has cards showing worth six. If they do, they will probably hit, and then bust, which means you will win. If they have something from seven to an Ace, better to take the risk and hit, as they will probably already have twenty one.

Hit if you have anything between five and eight.
